The Advantages of Installing a Heat Pump

There are a huge number of options available to homeowners in the heating market, far more than in previous decades. While this great variety is good for those who want to shop around and weigh all options before choosing a new system, most people are content to go with a heating system of the same type as the one they had previously. If you’re in the market for a new heating system, don’t go with the same old thing you had last time. Not yet, at least. First, take a look at heat pump systems, and what they have to offer.

What is a Heat Pump?

A heat pump is constructed more similarly to an air conditioner than a traditional heating system. Two units, one inside and one outside, evaporate and condense refrigerant to move preexisting heat from one place to another. The two are connected by a conduit, which contains power and refrigerant lines. Unlike an air conditioner, though, the heat pump can reverse the flow of refrigerant. This allows it to act as either a heating or cooling system on demand.

The Advantages

The ability to provide both warm and cool air alone is a pretty massive advantage over other climate control systems, and the primary reason that people install heat pumps. However, heat pumps are also much more energy efficient when it comes to the heating side of things. Since heat pumps don’t burn fuel to generate heat, they save quite a bit of money on operating costs compared to other heating systems. If you’re looking for an energy efficient way to keep your home warm, without compromising heat output, then a heat pump might be the perfect solution for you.
