How a Ductless System can Benefit You This Summer

If you’re looking for a new air conditioning system to keep cool this summer, you might be tempted to just go with the easy option and install a centralized system. While there’s nothing wrong with using central air, that’s not the only option available to you. You might benefit quite a bit more from using a different system, depending on your individual needs. Let’s take a look at ductless systems, and how one can benefit you this summer.

What is a Ductless Mini-Split?

A ductless mini split is a heat pump that doesn’t rely on ducts. Instead of using one large air handler to circulate air throughout the house through the ducts, a ductless system places a smaller air handler in each room of the house that requires it. Up to four indoor air handlers can be connected to a single outdoor unit. Each of these air handlers circulates air throughout the room in which it is installed, separate from the rest of the house. Each air handler also has its own thermostat, allowing it to operate independently. Because ductless systems are heat pumps, they offer both heating and cooling functions.

Benefits of Ductless Systems

A standard centralized air conditioning system can only be on, or off. It either conditions the entire home, or none of it. This can lead to hot and cold spots in areas that receive different amounts of sun exposure, or are insulated differently, from the rest of the house. It can also lead to conflict with other members of the household whom are comfortable at different temperatures. With a ductless system, you can set the ideal temperature for each room in the house. You’ll also be saving quite a bit of money on heating, as ductless systems don’t burn fuel to generate heat.
