Boiler Problems You Should Know About

Boilers have a well-earned reputation for being resistant to problems, especially compared to other heating systems. This is because they have far fewer moving parts than other heating systems, meaning they have fewer ways to malfunction. However, this does not mean that boilers are completely immune to issues. There are a few signs you should look for this winter that indicate a problem with your boiler. Have a look below.

Uneven Heating

Boilers are radiant heating systems. They heat by distributing water throughout the home using pipes installed in the sub-floor. Uneven heating between rooms could mean a number of different things. It’s possible that you have a blockage in one of the pipes, preventing water from distributing heat in that room. It’s also possible that you have a leak that’s diverting much of the water, though if that were the case you would probably have noticed it by now. Either way, it’s an indication of a serious problem with the system.

Leaks

As with all water-based systems, you should look for leaks in your boiler on a regular basis. Even small leaks can grow over time, due to rust or other issues. What you really want to avoid is a rupture in any part of the system, and the best way to do that is to call in repairs as soon as you notice a leak.

Odd Noises

If you notice any strange noises coming from your boiler, you need to call for repairs right away. Rumbling, booming, and all kinds of other odd noises could indicate a number of issues with the system. Better to have them checked out sooner than later, just to be safe.
