Common Air Conditioning Repairs Caused by a Lack of Maintenance

Tuesday, September 24th, 2013

When you have a mechanical system in your Texas home that works as hard as your air conditioner, you need to see that it is kept in the best condition possible. It’s no different than any other machine that sees extensive use, such as your car. An annual maintenance visit can prevent many expensive repairs that wear and tear can cause. Here are a few repairs our technicians at PRK Services, Inc. often encounter.

If you need Corinth, TX air conditioning repair services, or if you want to get a jump on preventing future troubles with regular maintenance, contact PRK Services, Inc. today.

Repair damage from clogged air filters: One of the basic steps of maintaining an air conditioner is changing the air filter regularly. (We recommend once a month during cooling season). If the filter becomes dense with trapped dust and debris, it can lead to damage to the interior components of the AC—and that adds up to the need for extensive cleaning and possibly the replacement of damaged parts.

Fixing overheated motors: If an air conditioner goes without maintenance, its parts will wear down fast and the AC will start working harder to reach its target temperature. This can rapidly lead to burned-out motors. Since motors power the compressor and fans, they must all be working in order to provide cooled air. Sometimes damaged motors can be fixed, and other times they need replacement.

Sealing refrigerant leaks: Without regular maintenance to see that the lines carrying refrigerant around the AC are in decent shape, they can start leaking this vital chemical. Low refrigerant will lead to a loss of cooling power and iced-over coils. A technician will need to seal the leaks, then recharge the refrigerant to its regular level.

Is My Air Conditioning System Ready for Replacement?

Thursday, September 19th, 2013

The advances in air conditioning technology over the last few decades are astonishing. You may want to take advantage of these leaps with a replacement system in your home to help make the Texas weather more bearable. However, getting a new air conditioner is a major step; installation requires time and professional work in order to get done properly. Before you settle on a replacement, consider some of the signs that may indicate your older system is ready to get swapped out. If a replacement is the best choice, put the job in our hands. PRK Services, Inc. handles Flower Mound, TX air conditioning replacements that will suit your needs

You should first take into account the age of your current system. Although modern air conditioners can provide many years of solid cooling, they wear down over time like any hardworking machine. If your AC was already in place when you moved into your home, it might have years of service behind it. Older systems will usually have manual thermostats with sliders instead of digital ones with pinpoint temperature accuracy. Pay particular attention to signs of trouble with an aging air conditioner, and if repairs start to pile up, it may be time for a replacement. However, if your system is only a few years old, repairs are probably a better choice than a complete replacement.

Look over your last year of electricity bills. A spike in costs usually means a repair that needs to be done to the AC, and not something that requires getting a new system. However, if you see an unexplained rise in your bills that continues even with repairs, then it may be a warning that your AC is coming to the end of its lifespan and cannot work at the same level it used to.

A poorly functioning air conditioner will no longer get your home as cool as it once did. If particular spots in your home feel warmer than others, you might look toward issues with the vents or the ducts. Problems that develop in ductwork are usually not pointers toward a failing air conditioner. A house-wide increase in temperature is a more worrying sign. Although other factors might be involved, if uneven heat occurs in conjunction with the problems above, it’s time to call in a professional to get an informed opinion on whether replacement is the best route.

PRK Services, Inc. has experience offering those opinions. For Flower Mound, TX air conditioning services and expert advice, look to us when you think your AC is ready for replacement.

Why Schedule Professional HVAC Installation

Monday, September 9th, 2013

With the change of seasons in Texas, you may consider getting a new HVAC system installed in your home. Maybe your old system is running down and needs replacement, or else you think you can save on your energy bills with an upgrade. But if you’re tempted to install a new system yourself, or rely on amateur help, take a moment to think over the reasons why it’s crucial to leave this job to experts. Non-professional installation invites numerous issues, from performance inefficiency to serious safety concerns. Place your trust in a professional company with years of experience to handle choosing the right HVAC system to fit your needs, and then to take care of installing it.

PRK Services, Inc. has served Denton, TX as well as the Flower Mound and Corinth areas for over 30 years. If you are considering a new HVAC installation, schedule an appointment with us.

There are many reasons why it’s essential to trust HVAC installation to professionals. Modern heating and cooling systems—from heat pumps and central air conditioning systems to boilers and furnaces—are complex machines involving multiple operating parts and intricate connections. Setting one up requires knowledge of where it is best positioned, how it links to your home’s ventilation, and even determining the best place to hook up the thermostat. Power needs are different for every home, and a trained technician will make sure that your new HVAC system matches it to avoid accidental outages or poor operation.

Determining the correct system for the size of your home is of the most important services a professional can provide. Although getting the largest and most powerful system is tempting, this can be just as inefficient as going too small, since your system will develop short cycles, thus causing it to wear down faster. Getting the right sized system means lower bills and a longer life for your system.

Improper installation also means a greater chance of breakdowns and more frequent needs for costly repairs in the future. You may end up needing professional help to repair the problems caused by inferior initial work. Start off on the right foot with an expert installation so you can avoid having to make numerous costly fixes because of sloppy, non-professional work.

At PRK Services, Inc., we are proud of the many Denton, TX HVAC installations we’ve done for our satisfied customers. Whatever system you need installed, the expertly trained technicians at PRK Services, Inc. can get the job done right.

Why We Celebrate Labor Day

Monday, September 2nd, 2013

We hope our present and future customers had a pleasant Labor Day this September. We know how hard you work to ensure that you and your loved ones have a good life, and we feel the same way about the work that we do throughout the year. Home comfort is our business, so you can rely on our technicians to take care of any issues that you may have. To many of us, Labor Day means BBQ, the start of the football season, and spending quality time with our friends and family. But there is much more to this holiday, and we wanted to share its true purpose with you.

Like many US holidays, the origins of Labor Day are somewhat disputed. While many cite Peter J. McGuire’s (of the American Federation of Labor) suggestion of a demonstration and picnic as the inaugural Monday, others cite Matthew Maguire, then secretary of the Central Labor Union of New York. In the wake of the massive and violent Pullman Strike of 1894, which pitted George Pullman and US Marshals and Military against workers of the Pullman Palace Car Company outside Chicago. Designated as a federal holiday by Congress and President Grover Cleveland in 1894, a mere six days after the strike ended, Labor Day has since become a way of recognizing the contribution that hard working Americans have made to this country.

We wish you all the best, and hopefully you took the time to relax, eat some good food, and take a load off.
